Construction Update - July 2026 - Emerson Creek Wind

On behalf of the Emerson Creek Wind team, we hope you had a safe and celebratory 4th of July and are enjoying your summer.

On site - our construction crews remain active and engaged in moving Emerson Creek Wind closer to completion. We want to take a moment to thank our many local suppliers and contractors, without which this project wouldn't be possible. Those include (to name a few)

We also want to thank our partners in labor from Laborers' Local 480 out of Sandusky and IBEW Local 129 out of Lorain. Over 50% of the workers on Emerson Creek Wind are Ohio-based, with many of them coming from Erie and Huron counties.

See below for a recap of activities since our last construction update and a preview of the construction sequence to expect in the months ahead.

Construction Updates

Crews remain focused on the site preparation needed for wind turbine deliveries to commence this fall. Public road improvements such as road widening, temporary turns, and culvert upgrades continue in coordination with the Huron County Engineer's Office.

So far, approximately 70% of access roads have been fully constructed. Foundation work continues on schedule and 25% of the turbine foundations have been completed so far.

Looking ahead, here are activities we expect to take place throughout the summer:

Electrical collection system installation - Installation of the underground collection system is about 15% complete and will continue throughout the project area, with completion expected in December 2026. Installation is primarily done via trenching, with a drain tile installer on hand to promptly repair any damaged tile.
Turbine foundation excavation and construction - Crews will continue excavating and constructing turbine foundations, moving from the southern part of the site to the north, with the process expected to conclude by the end of July, with all foundations poured and backfilled.
Substation & Switchyard construction - Construction work on these major electrical parts of the project have commenced and will continue through April 2027.
Operations & Maintenance Building - This summer, initial work will begin on the permanent operations building for the project, which will be located on the same area as the construction laydown yard. We expect it to be completed by April 2027. The "O&M" will be home base for our local facility manager and wind technicians during operations.
Transmission Line - The overhead transmission line that connects the project substation to the regional electric grid is expected to be built between August 2026 and April 2027, with construction starting at the existing transmission line north of the Ohio turnpike and moving towards the project substation. Deliveries of transmission poles have begun and a temporary staging area for transmission line construction is planned for the corner of State Route 4 and US-20 in coordination with OPSB.
Wind Turbine Delivery & Assembly - Wind turbine components will begin to be delivered on-site in August 2026, with assembly of the individual turbines to begin shortly thereafter, starting with the tower sections and followed by the nacelle (generator), hub, and blades. All turbines are expected to be fully assembled by January 2027 (weather permitting).
