Over the past three months, our crews have been focused on continuing road improvements, finalizing access roads, and starting turbine excavations, underground collection installation, and substation/switchyard grading.  

Road improvements will continue to occur throughout construction in coordination with the Huron County Engineer’s Office. Access roads are more than 75% complete. Of the 48 wind turbine foundations, 25 have been completed and are ready for turbine components to be delivered to site.

Installation of the underground collection system is also underway. Trenching is approximately 26% complete and boring is 21% complete. Collection installation trenching started at the project substation, which is located north of Highway 20 off Sandhill Road, and is moving south toward Egypt Road. More recently, trenching work took place south of the Reservoir. Site preparation work is also in progress at the project substation in Huron County and the switchyard located in Erie County.  

What to Expect Next

Looking ahead, here are the activities we expect to take place throughout the next month:  

• Turbine foundation excavation and backfill - Crews will continue excavating, constructing, and backfilling the remaining turbine foundations from the southern part of the site to the north. 
  
  
• Transmission Line - The overhead transmission line that connects the project substation to the regional electric grid is expected to be built between August 2026 and February 2027, with construction starting at the project substation off Sandhill Road and moving north.  
  
  
• Wind Turbine Delivery & Assembly - Wind turbine components will begin to be delivered on-site starting in early September, with assembly of the individual turbines to begin shortly thereafter. Turbine assembly starts with the tower sections and is followed by the nacelle (generator), hub, and blades. All turbines are expected to be fully assembled by January 2027 (weather permitting).
